Rare Sergio Bustamante - Carlos Del Conde Midcentury Life-Size Welded Brass & Copper Elephant Wall Sculpture

Signed and Numbered by Carlos Del Conde, Partner

Beautiful life size welded brass and copper sculpture of an elephant head by Mexican artists Sergio Bustamante and Carlos Del Conde, who is known for their sculptures of exotic animals and birds. Carlos Del Conde collaborated with the Mexican artist Sergio Bustamante who is also renowned for his brass and copper sculptures. The elephant is in nice vintage condition with some patina and oxidation from having been stored in a crate in a garage for decades. The elephant has been cleaned and polished from what looked to be fireplace tarnish. There are some little spots that may be from embers at one time.

The sculpture is signed and numbered “Carlos Del Conde 027/350”. A rare limited-edition piece.

At over 5' tall and 2.5' wide it is a striking piece of modernist art.

Measures:
Height: 63"
Width: 31"
Depth: 27"

Carlos del Conde was the apprentice and then partner to Sergio Bustamante. Carlos de Conde was a member of Sergio Bustamante's Family Workshop Studio in the 1970s and created this beautiful mixed metal elephant using Sergio's techniques.
As an artist, Sergio Bustamante creates sculptures from the nearly mythic characters of his imagination. Born in Mexico and educated as an architect at the University of Guadalajara, Bustamante opted to pursue the arts. He debuted his first works at a Mexico City gallery in 1966. While early Sergio Bustamante sculptures featured paper mache construction, his later work soon incorporated wood and bronze materials to form large-scale pieces.

Not limited to sculpture as an artist, Sergio Bustamante transitioned to making one-of-a-kind furniture and jewelry. However, his whimsical animal motif touches all of his work, creating a visual lexicon all his own. Worldwide demand for Sergio Bustamante’s art for sale continues to grow, raising the value of his work. Find your own fanciful animal sculptures for sale at auction or online to show off your eclectic side.

It will come shipped secured in a crate. The elephant is more light-weight than you’d expect. It’s a lightweight metal so it can easily be hung above a fireplace or hard-to-get-to stairwell wall. It is a true statement piece or any home, office, commercial space or safari themed event decor!

International buyers are welcome, however you will be responsible for further s&h charges.
